Steps in the call process for Call Committees
- The first step is to inform the District Education Executive of the need to begin a call process.
- Congregation’s Constitution and Bylaws should be reviewed for any information relevant to the call process; any procedures or restrictions contained therein are the ultimate “rules” governing the call process.
- Call Committee presents the procedures and opens nominations for candidates to the congregation. The District Education Executive also is asked to suggest candidates.
- Call Committee reviews nominations materials according to whatever process is determined in the Constitution and Bylaws, by congregational custom, or as pre-determined by the Call Committee.
- Names of “official candidates” are sent to the District Education Executive and appropriate information will be provided on the candidates.
- First call is sent out by congregation following pre-determined calling process.
Dos/don'ts in the call process
- Don’t fail to inform the District Education Executive in your calling process.
- Don’t fail to follow your congregation’s Constitution and Bylaws.
- Do be judicious and confidential in the way you use information on candidates received from the District Education Executive or in pre-call interviews. (Remember the Eighth Commandment and its Meaning!) Printed information on candidates should not be allowed to leave the room in which it is used.
- Do narrow the official candidate list to a recommended three to five candidates or so before presenting the names for voting by a larger body.
- Do all voting by secret ballots.
- Do make the election of a called worker unanimous if at all possible.
